What New Metal Sanctions On Russia Mean For Global Trade
London Metal Exchange has banned delivery of new Russian metal following sanctions imposed by US and UK for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Russian nickel, aluminium and copper produced from 13 April will not be eligible for delivery to the LME. Russia accounts for about 6% of global nickel production, 5% of aluminium and 4% of copper. Metals prices will rise short-term, but there is a limit. Russian metal will flow to sanction-neutral countries.

Critical Minerals Strategic Outlook
Production of lithium, cobalt, copper, nickel, and aluminum is estimated to account for more than $4 trillion in 2035. Batteries and accumulators are estimated to surpass the $1 trillion mark by the next decade. The automotive industry is transitioning from internal combustion engines to battery electric vehicles, driving demand for lithium. The construction sector also remains a powerful driver in the demand for nonferrous metals.
