Maxwell Frost Berates Kevin McCarthy Amid Biden Impeachment Inquiry: 'Unclear If He Even Has The Votes To Keep His Own Job'

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) has criticized House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and the GOP, accusing them of prioritizing self-interest and partisan politics over the welfare of the American people, The Hill reported.

Frost’s remarks were made on Thursday on the floor of the House. He lambasted McCarthy and his caucus, likening them to a “circus” incapable of rallying enough votes to pass pivotal legislation.

Frost, currently the youngest member of the House, also criticized GOP efforts to impeach President Biden over his son’s business dealings. This comes in the wake of McCarthy endorsing plans for an impeachment inquiry earlier this week.

In addition, Frost highlighted the internal discord within the Republican Party. McCarthy has faced criticism from his own members, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who has advocated for a more aggressive stance against Biden. Gaetz has even suggested possible votes to remove McCarthy from his position.

"This speaker doesn't even have the votes for impeachment, doesn't even have the votes to fund the government. It's unclear if he even has the votes to keep his own job," Frost said.

The House has been grappling with passing key bills necessary for government funding. One such measure – a defense funding bill – was torpedoed by opposition from far-right Republicans. Government funding is set to run out by the end of the month.
