As concerns over President Joe Biden‘s age and his son’s business transactions rise, the Biden administration is stepping up its efforts to engage young voters ahead of a potentially challenging general election, NBC News reported.

Vice President Kamala Harris has initiated a month-long college tour across eight states. The “Fight for Our Freedoms” tour will focus on issues such as abortion rights, student loans, gun safety, and climate change, which disproportionately affect young people, according to Harris’s office.

Despite the outreach, Biden and Harris face lukewarm approval ratings among young voters. A June NBC News poll showed only 41% of registered voters aged 18-34 had favorable views of Biden, and just 35% had positive views of Harris. In contrast, former President Barack Obama had a 56% approval rating among the same demographic at this stage of his presidency, compared to Biden’s current 51%.

While Biden is still preferred over Republican front-runner Donald Trump by young voters, there are concerns that they may not turn out to vote. A recent CBS News/YouGov poll revealed that over three-fourths of Americans believe in the need for a maximum age limit for elected officials.

At a White House-organized event at Hampton University, some students expressed concerns about Biden’s age. If re-elected, Biden would be 86 at the end of a second term.

“I think it is a concern, because we don't want to be voting for him and then he may not actually be able to serve his full term,” said student Ahmere Harper.
