Managing Futures Orders and Positions

Where can I view pending orders, open positions, and completed trades?

You can view your Futures activity in your Futures account on any supported platform. On Mobile ➝ Orders for open orders and today's filled and cancelled orders, Assets for futures you currently hold, and History for completed trades and other past activity.

On the desktop platform and Webtrade, you can also use the applicable widgets to review this information.

Why was my order cancelled or rejected?

A futures order may be canceled or rejected for several reasons:

  • OCO cancellation: When one part of an OCO order fills, the other is submitted for cancellation.

  • Liquidation: Open orders may be canceled to allow positions to be liquidated.

  • Insufficient buying power: Your account does not meet the applicable margin requirement.

  • Exchange price banding: Your order price falls outside the exchange’s permitted range.

  • Invalid order details: The price, quantity, or other settings do not meet the contract’s order requirements.

  • Order expiration: A Day order reaches the end of its session, or another applicable deadline is reached.

  • Trading restrictions: Account restrictions, contract expiration, or the market’s current trading status prevent the order from being accepted.

How can I modify or cancel an unfilled order?

On the mobile app, open your Futures account and navigate to Orders. Select the open order, then choose Cancel Order or Modify Order.

On the desktop app or Webtrade, navigate to the applicable Orders widgets.

Only the unfilled portion can be modified or canceled. Your order may execute before the request is processed, so confirm its final status before placing another order.

Which trading date applies to an order placed during an overnight session?

For futures, the trading date generally follows the exchange trading session, not simply the calendar date when you placed the order.

For example, if you place a futures order during the overnight session on Monday evening, that trade is typically considered part of Tuesday’s trading session because the futures session for Tuesday begins the prior evening.

Example (U.S. futures):

  • Monday, Oct. 5 at 6:00 PM ET → order placed overnight.

  • This is part of the Tuesday, Oct. 6 trading session.

  • The applicable trading date is Tuesday, Oct. 6.

It is common that the session's trading date differs from the actual calendar date/time the order was filled.

Can I submit, modify, or cancel orders while the market is closed?

It depends on the contract’s market status. During certain pre-open periods, you may submit, modify, or cancel eligible orders, but trades will not execute until trading resumes. During maintenance breaks or fully closed periods, these actions may be unavailable. Some periods allow cancellations only.

Always check the order’s status to confirm that your request was accepted. A pending cancellation does not mean the order has been canceled.

Where can I access historical records?

On Mobile ➝ Account ➝ Futures ➝ History. From here you can see your Order Records and Fund Records (transaction history).

Where can I find trade confirmations, account statements, and tax documents?

Please review the Locating Trade Confirmations and Account Statements article here for how to access account statements and trade confirmations.

Please review the Accessing Tax Documents article here for how to access tax documents.
