Looking Into Kosmos Energy's Return On Capital Employed
Kosmos Energy (NYSE: KOS) reported Q2 sales of $127.31 million. Earnings fell to a loss of $117.24 million, resulting in a 41.82% decrease from last quarter. In Q1, Kosmos Energy brought in $177.78 million in sales but lost $201.50 million in earnings. What Is ROCE? Return on Capital Employed is a measure of yearly pre-tax profit relative to capital employed by a business. Changes in earnings and sales indicate shifts in a company's ROCE. A higher ROCE is generally representative of successful growth of a company and is a sign of higher earnings per share in the future. A low or negative ROCE suggests the opposite. In Q2, Kosmos Energy posted an ROCE of -0.26%.Keep in mind, while ROCE is a good measure of a company's recent performance, it is not a highly reliable predictor of a company's earnings or sales in the near future.View more earnings on KOSROCE is an important metric for the comparison of similar companies. A relatively high ROCE shows Kosmos Energy is potentially operating at a higher level of efficiency than other companies in its industry. If the company is generating high profits with its current level of capital, some of that money can be reinvested in more capital which will generally lead to higher returns and earnings per share growth. In Kosmos Energy's case, the ROCE ratio shows the amount of assets may not be helping the company achieve higher returns. Investors may take this into account before making any long-term financial decisions.Q2 Earnings Insight Kosmos Energy reported Q2 earnings per share at $-0.23/share, which beat analyst predictions of $-0.33/share.See more from Benzinga * Click here for options trades from Benzinga * 12 Energy Stocks Moving In Monday's Pre-Market Session * 12 Energy Stocks Moving In Friday's After-Market Session(C) 2020 Benzinga.com. GoM Summary Part IV: Company Details
Production is dominated by major international companies, particularly, and maybe surprisingly, European ones.Principally Shell and BP, but with Equinor, Eni, Total and Repsol also active and many are (or were) seemingly wanting to expand in the area. The recent growth in production has come from the larger players, and they are taking a bigger slice of the expanding pie.

About KOS
Kosmos Energy Ltd. (Kosmos) is an independent oil and gas exploration and production company. The Company is focused on the emerging areas along the Atlantic Margins. Its assets include existing production and development projects offshore Ghana, Equatorial Guinea and in the United States Gulf of Mexico, discoveries and further exploration potential offshore Mauritania and Senegal, as well as exploration licenses with hydrocarbon potential offshore Sao Tome and Principe, Suriname, Morocco and Western Sahara. The Company has operations in Africa and South America. The West Cape Three Points (WCTP) Block and Deepwater Tano (DT) Block are located within the Tano Basin, offshore Ghana.
