Profile
In A Weak Banking Sector, Investors Taking A 'Wait And See' Approach With TCF Financial
TCF's credit situation looks healthy, with adequate reserves, below-average deferrals, and below-average exposure to industries more heavily exposed to COVID-19.Near-term earnings pressure will be meaningful, with minimal spread leverage and weak loan growth putting more of a premium on management's ability to cross-sell and reprice deposits effectively.Long-term expense and revenue synergies still look meaningful, and there are attractive deposit share opportunities in Michigan. TCF could also be a bigger player in M&A relatively soon.TCF shares look meaningfully undervalued in an out-of-favor sector, and the dividend looks safe.
