Mortgage rates edge down from a year ago, but purchase demand remains low. 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell to its lowest level since mid-March. Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Survey: Homebuyers have yet to respond to lower rates, as purchase demand remained low.

US disinflation may lead to a third-quarter Fed rate cut. Recent data on US inflation shows that the disin inflationary process is picking up steam. I believe the Federal Reserve will cut before the end of the third quarter. I see room for more than one rate cut in 2024. S&P 500 companies are forecasted to deliver their highest year-over-year earnings growth.

Mortgage Rates Are Likely To Decline In The Near Future
In June 2024, the 30-year fixed rate mortgage rate was around 6.9 percent. Inflation will eventually return to 2 percent per year. Lower long-term Treasury rates and lower spreads in the near future will translate into lower mortgage rates. Mortgage rates are likely to be lower in the future.
