Recently, collaborators from within and outside the United Nations from the Yunnan Observatory team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have made breakthrough progress in ultra-fast rotating near-Earth asteroid observation research, confirming the fastest known near-Earth asteroid. The relevant research results have been published in the international astronomical journal “Astronomy Journal”. A near-Earth asteroid refers to an asteroid whose perihelion distance is less than 1.3 AU. Among them, a near-Earth asteroid with a diameter greater than 140 meters and a meeting distance of less than 0.05 AU with the Earth's smallest orbital meeting distance is defined as a potentially dangerous asteroid. The destructive power caused by near-Earth asteroid impacts has attracted more and more attention. Therefore, monitoring, early warning and defense of near-Earth asteroids is related to the common security of all humankind.
