Robert Half arrived at its Q3 2026 report with investors focused on a staffing business under pressure, a rich dividend and a P/E that sits between peers and the wider professional services pack. The share price then exploded 21.7% in the first full session after earnings. That surge reflects a simple headline. Earnings per share climbed to about US$0.50 and revenue reached roughly US$1.36b, marking the first clean year on year EPS gain in several quarters and hinting that the profit squeeze many feared may be easing rather than deepening.

Earnings grabbed the headlines, but Robert Half’s valuation story ultimately comes back to the cash that flows through the business over time. Income statements can swing with the staffing cycle, while cash generation often gives a steadier view of what you are paying for.
Looking at Robert Half’s cash flows in isolation and applying a consistent valuation lens to those streams, the analysis suggests the stock could be a dramatic 30% undervalued.
"Protiviti's recent restructuring, which embeds approximately $45 million in annualized cost savings into the run rate with no further severance in guidance, creates room for mix improvement in technology consulting and internal audit work to translate into a higher contribution from consulting margins to consolidated operating income."
Robert Half is starting to put that claim on the board, but only partially. Protiviti adjusted gross margin rose to about 24.1% and operating margin to 7.7%. Payroll savings are already running near US$11m per quarter. Yet Protiviti revenue on an adjusted basis is still down 3% year on year, so most of the margin lift so far reflects cost work, not the mix upgrade the bullish story leans on.
The price and this Narrative do not agree. → Uncover what this Narrative says Robert Half is actually worth.
Bearish investors have argued that heavy overheads would swallow any early lift in staffing volumes and Protiviti mix.
"Even with cost actions that target US$45 million of annual savings, there is a risk that any early cycle recovery in Talent Solutions volumes is absorbed by this higher expense base, limiting any rebound in operating income and earnings."
Q3 pushes back on that concern but does not kill it. Robert Half grew adjusted Talent Solutions revenue, expanded group operating margin to 5.3%, and lowered enterprise SG&A to 33.6% of sales. That is clear progress. SG&A is still high, Protiviti revenue remains 3% lower year on year, and margin recovery leans more on cost cutting than healthier project leverage.
Robert Half just showed how quickly the narrative can shift when margins and sentiment move together. The real opportunity sits in finding stocks that could be undervalued before that shift becomes obvious.
