EU Regulator Initiates Antitrust Probe into Switzerland's Omya

06:55 AM EDT, 10/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission launched a formal antitrust investigation to assess whether Omya may have abused a dominant position in the calcium carbonates sector within the European Economic Area. The European Union watchdog said Friday it has concerns that the Swiss industrial materials producer may have limited competition by requiring its customers to buy all or most of their calcium carbonates, which are used as fillers and coating pigments in paper production, from Omya and offering exclusivity rebates. The commission added that the opening of the investigation does not prejudge its outcome.
