Fiserv has lagged behind the broader market amid sluggish revenue growth and declining profitability. The company’s revenue grew at an annualized rate of just 2.5% over the past two years, underperforming its financial industry peers, while earnings per share fell by 3.1% annually, indicating weaker returns from incremental sales. Additionally, its modest 9.9% return on equity highlights challenges in identifying profitable growth opportunities, weighing on investor sentiment.

On the positive side, Fiserv announced a multi-year agreement with cybersecurity and compliance company VikingCloud on Oct. 20 to help businesses strengthen their cybersecurity defenses and simplify PCI compliance. Beginning in early 2027, Fiserv will offer VikingCloud’s Cyber Risk Defense solution, which provides continuous monitoring, actionable security guidance, and protection against threats such as phishing, ransomware, and business impersonation. The service also includes built-in cyber insurance and a simplified A-to-F Security Score to help merchants assess their cyber risk.

Analysts are skeptical about FISV, with the stock having a “Hold” rating overall. Among the 38 analysts covering the stock, three are recommending a “Strong Buy,” two suggest a “Moderate Buy,” 28 recommend “Hold,” one suggests a “Moderate Buy,” and four “Strong Sell” for the stock. FISV’s average analyst price target is $55.30, indicating an upside of 14.7% from the current levels.
