Danaher (DHR) Q3 Earnings Strengthen Confidence In Margin Expansion

Simply Wall St · 2d ago

Danaher entered this earnings day with the stock already on a steady climb, up about 21% over the past three months. Q3 2026 results added fuel, as the share price jumped another 4.3% to around $233 after the release. The headline story is profit power. Basic earnings per share reached about $1.71 on revenue of roughly $6.6b, while trailing 12 month net income from continuing operations came in near $4.3b. The market move suggests relief and renewed confidence, yet the real surprise is how firmly profitability is holding up.

Danaher bullish thesis: recurring flywheel is gaining traction

Optimists argue that Danaher is building a higher quality, repeatable earnings engine around consumables and diagnostics rather than one off equipment swings.

"Analysts expect Danaher to continue compounding its mix of recurring consumables and diagnostics revenue, while converting earnings into strong free cash flow that supports buybacks and portfolio reshaping."

Q3 points in that direction. Core revenue ex respiratory grew 5.5% and Diagnostics ex respiratory delivered 7% core growth, helped by Cepheid and Beckman. Free cash flow reached US$1.6b in Q3 and US$4b year to date, which funded roughly US$900m of share repurchases in the first half and ongoing M&A, including Masimo and StatLab.

Danaher bear case: execution and China risks still live

Skeptics focus on whether end market friction, especially in bioprocessing and China, will blunt that recurring growth story.

"Volume based procurement and reimbursement changes in China that have already pressured Diagnostics revenue could extend beyond current expectations. Any further pricing pressure in that market would directly affect segment revenue and could compress net margins if not offset by cost efficiencies."

Q3 results ease some of that worry but do not erase it. Management flagged improving China dynamics for Beckman, which just logged its best core growth quarter in more than two years. At the same time, respiratory testing still created a 250 bps drag, and China pricing remains a watch item rather than a closed chapter.

Hunt For Mispriced Earnings Power

Danaher just showed how a single quarter can reset expectations around earnings resilience. The real opportunity is finding stocks that could be undervalued before the market reassesses their earnings power.
