MAR-JUL SOYBEAN SPREAD (ZSH27-ZSN27)

Since March Soybeans (ZSH27) made their 52-week high of 1356 last month, it has only dropped 6% to 1273¼.  March Corn, on the other hand, since making its 52-week high last month of 564 has dropped 16% to 476.  I think Soybeans may have more room to drop.  Even with China’s recent purchases of Soybeans, the market has continued to sell off.

While this sell-off has been taking place in the Soybeans, the MAR-JUL Soybean Spread (ZSH27-ZSN27) has been going in the same direction and has stayed below the 14-day and 21-day moving averages almost the entire way down. Today, the spread settled comfortably under both moving averages again.

It might be a good idea to be short to be short ZSH27-ZSN27 as long as it doesn’t bust up above both the 14-day and 21-day moving averages.  I am suggesting we try to get short this spread at -15.  That is 1¼ cents above today’s settlement and about 1 cent below these moving averages.

If you are able to sell the MAR-JUL Soybean Spread (ZSH27-ZSN27) at -15:

Risk 4 cents (price of -11) or $200.00 Per Spread to make 8 cents (price -23) or $400.00 Per Spread, plus fees and commissions.
