French Prime Minister Le Corny said today that after several days of protests turned violent, “targeted curfews” imposed in parts of Paris and other cities effectively maintained order at night. He said that tonight, local governments will have the power to once again implement “targeted curfews” in areas they deem necessary. Many cities, including Paris, Lyon, Lille, and Nice, imposed partial curfews from the night of October 19 to early this morning local time to prevent the riots from happening again. Nationwide demonstrations broke out in France on October 17, in many cities including Paris, Lyon, Lille, Marseille, Bordeaux, and Strasbourg. According to government statistics, at least 3,000 stores across France have been looted.
