Scientists from institutions such as the University of Tokyo in Japan and the Electron Synchrotron Research Center in Germany used European X-ray free electron laser devices to produce extremely short and unprecedented intensity hard X-ray flashes. The peak intensity of the obtained pulses exceeded 1,020 watts/square centimeter, setting a new world record for the intensity of hard X-ray pulses in seconds. The relevant results were published in the latest issue of “Optics” magazine.
