Presco Shares Rose Even As Profit Fell

Simply Wall St · 1d ago

If you had bought Presco at the very start of 2026 and simply held on, the result looks deceptively simple. Holding Presco from the start of the year would have returned 42.8%, including dividends. That headline sits awkwardly beside the more recent Q2 2026 report, where revenue and profit both fell and net margin compressed. If you were deciding back on 1 January, how much weight would you really have given to rich 2025 profitability against the risk of a bumpier earnings run rate ahead?

If the move has made Presco harder to judge, start where the gap is still open and scan 193 high quality undervalued stocks.

The Two Presco Narratives Investors Had To Weigh

The shares cost NGN1,450 at the start of the period, and Presco looked like a high quality operator with unusually rich profitability and cash generation.

The bullish view argued that this was a compounding machine. On that side, a Fair Value of NGN1,564, the price implied by its own optimistic model, assumed 42.4% revenue growth and a 40.0% profit margin over a 5-year stretch.

The more cautious case still saw strength but pushed back on how far it should be priced. This narrative pointed to a Fair Value of NGN1,261 and used a lower 13.0% revenue growth assumption together with a 39.0% margin and a higher 14.0x future P/E.

What The Presco Results Put To The Test

The key new fact was the Q2 2026 scorecard. Presco reported revenue of NGN97,889.218m and net income of NGN33,017.116m against Q2 2025’s NGN104,951.91m and NGN41,143.216m. Net margin moved from 39.2% to 33.7%. That pattern challenged the most optimistic case for sustained very high profitability and supported the cautious scenario.

The episode turned on how durable the peak margin story really was. For a different stock, check whether promised high returns on sales actually hold up in later filings or quickly slip back toward earth.

What Presco's Current Price Already Assumes

Presco now trades at NGN2,045, after a 42.8% gain from the start of the year. The selected Narrative still places its own Fair Value above that level rather than below it.

That view leans on high reported margins, cash generation and returns on capital. The Narrative argues today’s price still does not fully credit the durability of those economics over time.

"PRESCO operates in Oil Palm sector which has high entry cost and long gestation period. PRESCO has high margins (Gross & Net) and pricing power with specialized products including RBDO. Strong enough MOAT, a competitive advantage in order to protect and sustain the high ROCE for a long time. PRESCO has quality earnings."

That disagreement has a full argument behind it. → Uncover the higher Fair Value this Narrative argues for
