Ershad Nasirov, vice president of the National Petroleum Company of Azerbaijan, said at the Russian Energy Week event in Moscow that the company intends to resume purchasing natural gas from Gazprom. Nasirov said that Socar had previously purchased gas from Gazprom and later supplied the Russian company with natural gas. Azerbaijan is willing to use its pipeline capacity to help transport Russian gas to Iran. Nasirov later told reporters that there is currently no definitive plan regarding the purchase volume and schedule. Interfax quoted him as saying, “We have bought gas from Gazprom, sold gas to Gazprom, and also carried out seasonal gas volume swaps. This is a routine commercial operation.”
