QUICK SPARK: Andreessen Horowitz Cuts Recruiting Staff, Shifts Talent Strategy To Crypto And Growth Teams

Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz has laid off most of its 34-person team that helps portfolio companies recruit talent.

The cuts target a recruiting service a16z has used to attract startup founders and help its portfolio companies hire talent as they grow, Axios reported.

Andreessen Horowitz will reassign remaining members of its "full stack talent" team to specialized investment groups, including growth and crypto. This will allow each division to build recruiting teams tailored to its needs rather than relying on a centralized operation.

The restructuring comes as a16z expands its growth-stage investing efforts. In September, the firm announced that its fifth growth fund had reached $8.5 billion, targeting companies transitioning from early-stage startups into larger businesses.

The firm has also announced plans to invest $1.1 billion in physical AI infrastructure through its Machine Age Fund, targeting chips, memory, networking, data centers and robotics.

The recruiting cuts could signal a shift in how a16z supports portfolio companies operationally, moving talent resources closer to individual investment teams. The firm still lists its employees on its website.
