What BRP Doubters Saw Before The Drop

Simply Wall St · 1d ago

BRP’s year took a sharp turn when U.S. tariff changes forced the company to suspend its fiscal 2027 guidance and flag more than $500m in extra costs, and the share price slumped to its weakest level since the prior July. Holding BRP from the start of the year would have meant a 22.8% loss, including dividends. If you were weighing that investment on 1 January 2026, how should this tariff shock and the company’s response now be judged?

BRP has already moved. See which of 7 high quality undervalued stocks still trade below our estimates.

The Two BRP Stories Investors Had To Weigh

The shares cost CA$97.05 at the start of the period, and BRP sat between two very different stories about where its outdoor and marine franchises might head next.

On the bullish side, one camp saw Fair Value at CA$114, a notional price backed by assumptions of 9.8% annual revenue growth and profit margins reaching 7.0% as electrification and premium products broadened the market.

The more cautious view put Fair Value at CA$80.12, built on 5.4% growth, 6.0% margins, and concern that North American demand and tighter emission standards could weigh on future earnings.

What The BRP Evidence Actually Tested

The tariff reset that prompted BRP to suspend its fiscal 2027 guidance directly challenged the bullish case, which had assumed smoother margin progress. Q2 2027 results showed revenue of CA$2,236.8m compared with CA$1,888.2m in Q2 2026. However, profit moved to a loss of CA$136.6m and net margin declined from 3.1% to negative 6.1%. The evidence cut both ways.

The key lesson is that guidance around profit quality can matter more than headline sales. When you assess a similar story elsewhere, test any optimistic thesis against the reported net margin and whether management maintains or withdraws multi year targets.

What Today’s BRP Price Already Assumes

BRP now trades at CA$75.4, leaving the year to date return from the start of the year at a 22.8% loss. The selected Narrative sees a Fair Value above that level, based on product launches, international growth and margin support from network and digital projects.

For that higher figure to be justified, a buyer today would need to believe BRP can translate these efforts into durable earnings that outlast tariff and cycle swings.

"Key Takeaways: Innovative product launches and international expansion, especially in fast-growing regions, are poised to accelerate growth and diversify revenue streams. Strategic network optimization and digital initiatives support margin recovery and higher recurring revenue, positioning the company for stronger, sustained earnings."

Where Could You Get There Earlier?

  • Company 1 - 24% below our estimate - uses new boutiques and a rebuilt app to attract more shoppers.
  • Company 2 - 35% below our estimate - ramps complex AI networking hardware programs that deepen reliance from key customers.
  • Company 3 - 44% below our estimate - pushes higher grade ore through existing mills to increase output and efficiency.
