06:12 AM EDT, 10/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission proposed a one-year delay to the import-related provisions of the EU Methane Regulation to ease pressure on supply security amid the ongoing war in the Middle East, according to a Wednesday release. The proposal concerns the monitoring, reporting and verification duties for natural gas, oil and coal importers, as well as the reporting on methane-intensity requirements for importers and producers in the bloc. The Commission said it will submit the proposed targeted amendment to the European Parliament and Council for adoption, noting "a timely agreement is essential to maintain regulatory certainty."
