The reporter learned from the State Grid Shandong Electric Power Company on October 10 that the Yanwei 1000 kV UHV AC transmission and transformation project was officially completed and put into operation on October 10. This is the first UHV AC transmission and transformation construction project put into operation in the country during the “15th Five-Year Plan” period. It is also a key channel serving clean energy delivery in the Yanwei region of Shandong. According to reports, the Yanwei 1000 kV UHV AC transmission and transformation project began in June 2025. The total length of the line is 1,197 kilometers. It passes through the 5 cities of Yantai, Qingdao, Rizhao, Weifang, and Linyi to build 1 new 1000 kV switch station, expand 2 1000 kV substations, and assemble 2124 towers, including 822 towers built in hills and mountains, and 17 towers at sea. The Yanwei region is home to most of Shandong's nuclear power and half of the offshore wind power generation. The transformation from traditional “power receiving end” to an important “power transmission end” is being accelerated. It is estimated that by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the Yanwei region will need to send more than 30 million kilowatts of surplus electricity. The commissioning of the project has opened up the “main artery” of electricity transmission from the Yanwei Clean Energy Base, which is of great significance in promoting the transformation of Shandong's energy, ensuring safe and reliable supply of electricity, and supporting green, low-carbon, and high-quality development.
