Ukrainian President Zelensky posted on social media on the night of the 9th regarding the call between the Russian and US presidents that day that the easing of sanctions against Russia was “clearly weak.” Zelensky told a US delegation visiting Ukraine on the same day that ending the conflict requires “toughness” and that sanctions must be imposed to put pressure on Russia; however, the conversation between the leaders of the US and Russia “led to different results.” Zelensky stressed that in the absence of a clear and long-lasting conflict de-escalation agreement with Russia, any act of easing sanctions against Russia is “clearly weak.”
