10:05 AM EDT, 10/09/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Saudi Arabia Railways, or SAR, ordered 10 more intercity trains from Stadler Rail (SRAIL.SW), exercising its option under a 2024 contract worth more than 300 million francs. The trains are intended for SAR's East-West line, which connects the Saudi Arabian regions of Riyadh, Hofuf, Abqaiq and Dammam, according to a Friday release. The order doubles the fleet that Stadler Rail developed for the Middle Eastern country to 20 train sets from 10. Production will begin directly after the first series, which entered production in April 2026, primarily at the railway rolling stock manufacturer's facilities in Switzerland. Commercial passenger service is set to begin in the second half of 2029.
