Japanese convenience store giant Lawson announced on October 8 that its member account service “Lawson ID” was illegally accessed by a third party in mid-September, causing users' personal information, including email addresses, names, gender, phone numbers, and addresses, to be leaked, involving about 2.155 million IDs. The karaoke chain operator Dai-ichi Kosang also revealed that due to malware infecting employee terminals of outsourced companies, information such as the names, dates of birth, and email addresses of its “BIG ECHO” and “MEGA BIG” store members may have been leaked, totaling about 8.72 million pieces. Companies affected by the leak include the car-sharing service “Times CAR” and SoftBank subsidiary IDC Frontier. Some experts believe that attackers may have used artificial intelligence to indiscriminately attack vulnerable targets in the system.
