After the collapse of the Soviet Union, war broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the ownership of the Naka region. In December 2023, the two sides issued a joint statement reaffirming their intention to normalize relations and reach a peace agreement based on respect for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. In August 2025, Argentina and Asia initially signed the text of the “Agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia on Establishing Peace and Inter-State Relations”. Since then, relations between the two countries have continued to improve.
