Zhitong Finance App learned that according to Counterpoint Research's latest high-end IT display panel shipment volume and technology report, the high-end laptop display market (covering OLED and MiniLED) is expected to grow 11% year-on-year in 2026. In contrast, the overall laptop display market is expected to decline 3% year over year due to continued rising storage costs and rising bill of materials (BoM) costs.

OLED's share in the high-end laptop market continues to expand

OLED laptop display panel shipments are expected to increase 50% year over year in 2026 and a further 24% increase in 2027. Apple's next MacBook Pro models are expected to use OLED panels, and the market's growing demand for high-end AI PCs is expected to jointly drive this growing trend.

Meanwhile, miniLED laptop display panel shipments are expected to drop 38% year over year in 2026 and a further 60% decline in 2027. This trend reflects the fact that manufacturers are increasingly inclined to adopt OLED technology as OLED's advantages in lightweight design, image quality performance, and cost competitiveness gradually become apparent.

Improved performance and expanded production scale help OLED development

A number of technological developments are expected to increase the appeal of OLEDs and improve the economic efficiency of their production:

The Tandem OLED architecture enables higher brightness, better energy efficiency, and longer panel life.

Next-generation manufacturing technologies are expected to improve material utilization, improve production yield, and increase production efficiency, including Vicino's Intelligent Pixelation Technology (ViP) and LG Display's FliPP (FMM-free Innovative Pixel Patterning) technology.

The commercial application of phosphorescent blue OLED materials is expected to improve the overall energy efficiency of panels and reduce power consumption.

The expansion of production scale of 8.7th generation oxide backpanels is expected to reduce manufacturing costs and promote the wider spread of OLED technology in the notebook market.

Growth is expected to continue until 2030

Counterpoint Research remains optimistic about the laptop OLED market, and expects the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of OLED laptop panel shipments and revenue to reach 26% and 35%, respectively, between 2024 and 2030.

The revenue growth rate is higher than the growth rate of shipments, indicating that during the forecast period, the average value of a single panel is expected to increase, and the overall scale will expand significantly.

David Naranjo, Deputy Director of Counterpoint Research, said, “The growth of the OLED laptop market will increasingly depend on turning advances in panel performance and manufacturing processes into products that are both attractive and competitive in price. Apple expects the adoption of OLED technology and market demand for high-end AI PCs to accelerate the transformation process in the near future. At the same time, improvements in energy efficiency, panel longevity, and production scale will provide strong support for widespread adoption until 2030.”
