If you had backed Technip Energies for its LNG expertise and energy transition pitch, the past year would have felt painful. Holding Technip Energies over the past year would have meant a 27.5% loss, including dividends. If that decision rested on expectations of 11.3% annual revenue growth, a margin lift to 7.0% and a 14.4x P/E in three years, what did that original case miss about LNG project timing, TPS order softness and margin risk?

The shares cost €40.1 at the start of the period, and investors in Technip Energies faced two clean but very different stories.
The bullish Narrative pointed to a Fair Value of €50, a notional upside price implied by its assumptions, built on 11.3% annual revenue growth and a move to a 7.0% profit margin within three years.
The bearish view anchored on a Fair Value of €33 and treated LNG dependence and possible narrowing EPC markets as key threats, even while still assuming 4.7% yearly revenue growth and a 6.5% margin.
Technip Energies secured full notice to proceed on the Commonwealth LNG EPC contract and booked over €6b of Q1 2026 orders, which supported the growth and LNG exposure in the bullish story. The later Q2 2026 results told a tougher tale. Revenue reached €2,035m, yet net income was €12.1m and net margin fell to 0.6% from 4.9%. The evidence cut both ways.
The whole episode turned on how quickly higher LNG and TPS activity would translate into durable profitability. For any other contractor, you would now track the gap between backlog and net margin each half year and test whether new awards are lifting profit per euro of revenue, rather than just reported order size.
Technip Energies now trades at €28.2, well below where holders started one year ago. The selected Narrative sees a Fair Value above that quote, drawing on LNG depth as well as growing decarbonization and TPS exposure.
For that gap to close, a buyer today would effectively be backing sustained LNG and low carbon order intake that supports steadier, higher quality margins.
"Rising demand for decarbonization and LNG projects, along with geographic and market diversification, supports sustained growth and greater revenue stability. Strategic partnerships, proprietary technology, and TPS segment expansion are driving margin improvement and higher-quality, recurring earnings."
