Anthropic is committing $150 million over three years to the federal government’s Genesis Mission, expanding access to its Claude AI models across U.S. science agencies and national laboratories.

The commitment, announced Thursday at a White House Office of Science and Technology Policy summit in Washington, D.C., will fund Claude access, API credits, technical support and other tools for hundreds of research projects participating in the initiative.

Anthropic said the effort will make Claude, Claude Code and API credits available to researchers at more than 15 organizations involved in the Genesis Mission, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.

Expanding Claude Across Federal Science

Anthropic said the funding will support work in areas including fusion energy and quantum computing, while giving scientists access to training, onboarding and technical assistance as they incorporate AI into their research.

The company said its work with the U.S. Department of Energy and the Genesis Mission began in December, with the partnership expanding Claude’s availability across national laboratories.

The Genesis Mission is a federal initiative that uses AI to accelerate scientific discovery by connecting researchers with advanced computing and AI tools. Anthropic’s latest commitment expands its role from providing AI models to supporting the broader infrastructure needed to deploy them across government research programs.

Anthropic said it will also help agencies new to the initiative launch their first projects.

Anthropic Pushes Further Into AI For Science

The $150 million commitment adds to Anthropic’s broader push to establish Claude as a tool for scientific research.

The company launched Claude Science, an AI workbench built around research tools and software packages, and made 10,000 free or discounted Claude seats available to academic researchers.

Anthropic has also expanded its AI for Science credits program and launched a research preview of a Model Hardware Standard designed to help AI agents interact with laboratory equipment more safely.

The company’s Genesis Mission commitment comes as AI companies increasingly look beyond traditional enterprise software and coding use cases, pitching their models as tools for scientific research, engineering and other specialized work.

Anthropic said its three-year initiative aims to give Genesis Mission researchers access to Claude while helping federal agencies integrate AI into high-priority scientific projects.
