NASA and the US Department of Energy signed a memorandum of understanding on October 8 entitled “Accelerating America's leadership in space nuclear power and propulsion”, effective November 1. NASA Director Jared Isaacman and Energy Secretary Chris Wright signed the memorandum at the “Golden Age Summit.” The memorandum covers advanced research, fuel production, testing, launch integration and operation in the field of nuclear space development. NASA's space reactor-1 “Liberty” is scheduled to be launched in 2028 and will promote nuclear propulsion technology to deep space applications.
