The Bet Behind Analog Devices' 82% Run

Simply Wall St · 1d ago

If you had focused only on Analog Devices' day to day headlines about AI data centers, industrial automation or new chip deals, the bigger picture might have been easy to miss. Holding Analog Devices over the past year would have returned 82.2%, including dividends. If you were weighing a purchase back on 2025-10-06, what would you have needed to believe about its robotics, edge AI and electrification pipeline for that outcome to feel reasonable?

Narratives are how investors here put a case on the record, with explicit assumptions about revenue, margins and the multiple. Those assumptions imply an estimated Fair Value.

The move put Analog Devices in the middle of this trade. Scan 92 AI infrastructure stocks for other companies exposed to it.

The Two Stories Investors Had To Weigh On Analog Devices

The shares cost US$242 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at Analog Devices then was really choosing between two very different stories.

On the optimistic side, the bullish narrative pinned fair value at US$267. It relied on Analog Devices lifting revenue by 11.3% a year, with profit margins reaching 34.6%, helped by demand for advanced robotics, edge AI and electrification.

The cautious view set fair value at US$155. That bear case focused on risks such as large automotive and electronics customers bringing more chip design in-house, which could pressure future demand and margins for third party analog suppliers.

What The Results Changed For Analog Devices

Revenue at Analog Devices moved from US$2,880.3m in Q3 2025 to US$4,021.9m in Q3 2026, and net income rose from US$518.5m to US$1,340.1m. Net margin shifted from 18.0% to 33.3%. That profitability level leaned toward the optimistic case, although sector selloffs and concerns about AI related spending gave the cautious story some ongoing weight. Overall, the evidence pointed in both directions.

The key assumption investors needed to test was margin potential from AI, robotics and electrification work. For any similar chip producer, track both the direction of net margin and the speed at which it moves toward the margin embedded in the initial thesis.

What Today's Analog Devices Price Already Assumes

Analog Devices now trades at US$421. This Narrative’s Fair Value estimate sits below the current price, so the authors see today’s level as baking in a stronger setup than their own model.

The focus is whether AI data centers, energy, aerospace, defense and auto convert into sustained high margin cash flows. A buyer at today’s price would need confidence that this entire pipeline keeps delivering enough profitable demand to support those expectations.

"The main thing that has to go right is that Analog Devices converts its AI driven data center, energy, aerospace and defense, ATE and automotive content pipeline into sustained high margin revenue while continuing to realise acquisition synergies and maintain strong free cash flow generation."
