12:07 PM EDT, 10/07/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Pfizer (PFE.F) plans to lay off 330 employees at its Catania plant in Sicily, Italy, local labor unions said in a Wednesday joint statement. A meeting between the pharmaceutical giant and the country's Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy ended on a negative note, according to the CGIL, CISL and UIL unions. The Catania plant currently employs 550 people. The meeting follows Pfizer's announcement that it intends to permanently shutter two production lines at the Catania site, the ministry said Tuesday. The ministry will hold another meeting with the company on Nov. 10. Pfizer did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
