Two sources with direct knowledge revealed that Ashish Kumar, the former AI leader of Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot, co-founded a startup to develop non-humanoid robots. This type of robot can handle all kinds of tasks originally required by highly skilled workers in manufacturing, aerospace and other industries. The San Francisco-based startup, called Intelligent Machines, has recruited several former members of the Tesla Optimus team and is currently undergoing a seed round of financing, which is expected to reach approximately $100 million. Intelligent Machines is currently focusing on robot software development, but its management is also exploring self-developed hardware. According to two people familiar with the matter, the company uses reinforcement learning techniques to train robots: rewards for achieving goals and punish erroneous actions to teach robots to perform complex tasks.
