The Thai government is considering lowering the consumption tax on biofuels to lower prices and boost consumption. Ministry of Energy spokesman Pompor Jordmuntcharun said at a press conference on Wednesday that the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Finance are preparing tax reduction plans. Pompor said that biofuel is made from gasoline or diesel mixed biomass fuel and can be produced locally at a low cost. The excise tax on biogasoline and biodiesel is approximately THB 6 per litre. Expanding the use of biofuels will help reduce crude oil imports and ease the pressure on government fuel subsidies.
