According to reports, Samsung Electric plans to invest nearly 5 billion US dollars in semiconductor substrate production in South Korea and Vietnam by 2028 to further enhance Vietnam's position in the production of artificial intelligence servers and key components for high-performance computing. As an electronic component subsidiary of South Korea's Samsung Group, Samsung Electric announced two FC-BGA substrate investment plans last week. This product is used in AI servers, robots, and smart car chips. One of these investments is 4.27 trillion won for the Sejong plant in South Korea, which is the largest investment the company has made in a single product to date; the other is 2.51 trillion won for a Vietnamese subsidiary. The company announced in 2022 that it would test FC-BGA substrates in Taiyuan province in northern Vietnam. The expansion of the facility now shows that trial production results are in line with expectations, and the company is ready to enter large-scale mass production.
