07:00 AM EDT, 10/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Norway intends to submit a legislative proposal to the Storting, its parliament, for a temporary ban on AI or smart glasses in selected locations, while appointing an expert group to advise on permanent national regulation, according to a notice on the government's website on Monday. The government said it is not proposing a total ban, but it is considering restricting the use of AI glasses in places frequently visited by the general public, such as parks, beaches, museums, malls, and public events. The restrictions could also cover locations involving children, healthcare facilities, fitness centers, and educational institutions. Norway's Minister of Digitalisation and Public Administration, Torgeir Micaelsen, said the government is concerned that the technology could photograph, film, or record people without their knowledge. Exceptions would be allowed for vulnerable groups and for limited socially beneficial uses.
