The Centre for Food Safety of the Hong Kong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today that in response to a notification from the World Organization for Animal Health, there were outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Big Stone County and Kandiyohi County in Minnesota, Ravalli County, Montana, and Barron County in Wisconsin, as well as a notification from the UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs that the highly pathogenic H5N5 avian influenza outbreak occurred on Lewis Island in Scotland. The Centre immediately instructed the industry to suspend imports of poultry meat and poultry products from these regions to protect public health in Hong Kong.
