According to people familiar with the matter, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a potential commercial deal involving the sale of Russian energy assets during a meeting with the US special envoy. The US and Russia also discussed the possibility of promoting a “restart” of bilateral relations through economic initiatives such as US-Russia energy cooperation after the war. People familiar with the matter said that during the meeting, Putin proposed to push for the sale of a huge asset package owned by Lukoil, one of Russia's largest private energy giants. This includes the company's oil fields, refineries, and gas stations around the world. The consortium currently seeking the deal reports: Todd Burley, an American billionaire and co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers; two Middle Eastern consortia with deep commercial cooperation with the Kushner or Witkoff families; and the US government itself.
