Have Avax Insiders Been Selling Stock?

Anyone interested in Avax S.A. (ATH:AVAX) should probably be aware that the MD & Director, Konstantine Mitzalis, recently divested €142k worth of shares in the company, at an average price of €3.16 each. However, the silver lining is that the sale only reduced their total holding by 0.2%, so we're hesitant to read anything much into it, on its own.

Avax Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent sale by Konstantine Mitzalis is the biggest insider sale of Avax shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (€3.36). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was just 0.2% of Konstantine Mitzalis's stake.

Insider Ownership Of Avax

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Avax insiders own 54% of the company, worth about €267m. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Avax Insiders?

The stark truth for Avax is that there has been more insider selling than insider buying in the last three months. Zooming out, the longer term picture doesn't give us much comfort. On the plus side, Avax makes money, and is growing profits. While insiders do own a lot of shares in the company (which is good), our analysis of their transactions doesn't make us feel confident about the company. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. At Simply Wall St, we've found that Avax has 4 warning signs (2 don't sit too well with us!) that deserve your attention before going any further with your analysis.

For the purposes of this article, insiders are those individuals who report their transactions to the relevant regulatory body. We currently account for open market transactions and private dispositions of direct interests only, but not derivative transactions or indirect interests.
