From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Aeeris Limited's (ASX:AER ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Aeeris

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Kerry Plowright, for AU$435k worth of shares, at about AU$0.099 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (AU$0.062). So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Kerry Plowright was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Aeeris insiders own about AU$2.1m worth of shares (which is 42% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. However, the longer term transactions are not so encouraging. Overall, we'd prefer see a more sustained buying from directors, but with a significant insider holding and more recent purchases, Aeeris insiders are reasonably well aligned, and optimistic for the future.
