In the second quarter of this year, personal consumption expenditure, which accounts for about 70% of the total US economy, increased 3.8% month-on-month; exports and imports of goods and services increased 5% and 12.6%, respectively; non-residential fixed asset investment reflecting corporate investment conditions increased 9% month-on-month; and government consumption expenditure and investment fell 0.1% month-on-month. In terms of contribution, personal consumption expenditure and domestic private investment drove economic growth by 2.51 percentage points and 0.82 percentage points respectively during the quarter; net exports of goods and services, government consumption expenditure, and investment dragged down economic growth by 1.1 percentage points and 0.01 percentage points, respectively. The US Department of Commerce usually estimates quarterly GDP data three times based on constantly improving information. The first GDP estimates for the third quarter of this year will be announced on October 29.
