Indian police said on September 30 that they recently destroyed a telecom fraud dens in Delhi. The dens posed as Apple's technical support call center and specifically targeted US residents to trick them into buying gift cards and handing over exchange codes. According to the “Hindustan Times” report, this fraud dens are located in an industrial zone in western Delhi. The local police launched a surprise search on September 25 and arrested 7 people involved in the case, including the leader of a fraud gang. Police said the person involved in the case used a Western name to impersonate an Apple employee to call people living in the US, falsely claiming that the other party's device was infected with the virus or contained pornographic content, tricked the other party into buying gift cards to “solve technical problems,” and then handed over the gift card exchange code provided by the victim to a partner.
