Italian Annual Inflation Rate Climbs to 4.2% in September, Preliminary Data Shows

05:14 AM EDT, 09/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Italy's annual inflation rate increased to 4.2% in September from 3.3% in August, provisional data from statistics agency Istat showed Wednesday. The consensus estimate for the month was 3.8%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 0.7%, compared with the market forecast of a 0.2% rise and the prior 0.5% gain. The Italian harmonized inflation rate stood at 4.1% on an annual basis, against the previous reading of 3.2% and the expected 3.8%. Month over month, harmonized consumer prices were 2% higher, against the prior 0.1% uptick and forecast of a 1.8% increase.
