Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (PNC) operates as a diversified financial services company in the United States. Valued at a market cap of $89.2 billion, the company operates through three segments: Retail Banking, Corporate & Institutional Banking, and Asset Management Group, and offers checking, savings, and money market accounts, time deposits, residential mortgages, home equity loans, and lines of credit.

PNC is expected to release its Q3 2026 earnings on Thursday, October 15, before the market opens.  Ahead of the event, analysts expect the company’s EPS to be $4.97 on a diluted basis, up 14.3% from $4.35 in the year-ago quarter. The company has exceeded Wall Street’s EPS estimates in each of its last four quarters, which is impressive.

For fiscal 2026, analysts project the company’s EPS to be $19.23, up 15.9% from $16.59 in fiscal 2025. Moreover, its EPS is expected to rise by roughly 11.1% year over year (YoY) to $21.37 in fiscal 2027.

PNC stock has surged 10% over the past 52 weeks, lagging behind the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 15.7% rise but outpacing the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLF) marginal rise during the same time frame.

Despite being an industry leader, analysts are wary of PNC stock given its shaky fundamentals and structural headwinds. The company’s annual net interest income growth of 9.4% over the last five years has been underwhelming compared to other banking stocks. Moreover, its net interest margin of 2.8% indicates high servicing and capital costs. Additionally, PNC’s tangible book value per share growth is estimated to be 7.2% for the next year, hinting at slow profitability.

Analysts are somewhat bullish on PNC, with the stock having a “Moderate Buy” rating overall. Among the 23 analysts covering the stock, 13 are recommending a “Strong Buy,” three suggest a “Moderate Buy,” and seven suggest a “Hold” for the stock. PNC’s average analyst price target is $273.89, indicating an upside of 22.6% from the current levels.
