On September 29, after 1 year and 9 months of construction, the main tower of the Xixiang Expressway Lugu Lake Special Bridge from Xichang in Sichuan to Shangri-La in Yunnan was successfully capped. This bridge is located in Yanyuan County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan. It is about 2,600 meters above sea level. The total length of the bridge is 1,921 meters, and the main span is 1,680 meters. It is currently the world's largest suspension bridge in mountainous areas. The main tower was successfully capped this time, marking that the bridge has fully completed the construction of the substructure and officially moved into the superstructure construction stage. The total length of the Xixiang Expressway is 233.13 kilometers, and it is expected to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of 2029. Once completed, the project will end the history of lack of access to highways in Yanyuan County and Muli County in Sichuan. At that time, the driving distance from Xichang City to Yanyuan County will be shortened from 3 hours to less than 1 hour, and the driving distance to Lugu Lake will be shortened from 5 hours to less than 2 hours, further connecting important tourist destinations such as Lugu Lake and Shangri-La to promote the development of cultural tourism resources and regional economic development along the route.
