The Zhitong Finance App learned that Tesla (TSLA.US) has rescheduled the new-generation Roadster unveiling event scheduled to be held this week until October 15.

The company updated on social media platform X: “We have been closely tracking the weather conditions with local meteorologists, but due to the predicted severe weather conditions and the event can only be held outdoors, we have made the difficult decision to reschedule.” The event is still expected to take place at the SpaceX (SPCX.US) test site in McGregor, Texas.

The electric car maker has yet to announce the final sale price, production schedule, or customer delivery date for the highly anticipated Roadster.

The highlight of the event was that the Roadster may be equipped with an air-conditioning propulsion system from SpaceX and demonstrated. The “Go for Launch” preview released by Tesla and Elon Musk's statements over the years have made outsiders expect the car to achieve short-term lift and suspension effects, and the possibility of an unmanned demonstration in Texas. Air-cooled propellers use pressurized gas to generate short thrust rather than traditional combustion rockets.

Looking back at history, the Roadster was the company's first mass-produced model. The model was sold between 2008 and 2012, and is widely regarded as an important proof of concept to prove to consumers that lithium-ion battery sports cars have both real battery life and high performance.

The car is based on a heavily modified Lotus Elise chassis, equipped with an AC induction motor, and has an actual battery life of about 200 miles; the model is sold in limited quantities, priced at six digits of US dollars and above, with a total output of about 2,450 units. Subsequently, Tesla's focus turned to Model S, and production of this model was discontinued.

In 2017, the second-generation Roadster prototype debuted and positioned as a pure electric supercar. At the time, it was claimed that it could accelerate 0-60 mph in less than 2 seconds, have a maximum speed of more than 250 miles per hour, and is equipped with a 200 kilowatt-hour battery pack, and a battery life of up to 620 miles.
