A statement issued on Monday said that a group of current and former Iranian officials called for the immediate suspension of relevant cooperation under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the process of withdrawing from the Treaty as soon as possible. The signatories of the statement said, “It is not in the national interest to remain in the treaty. We regard withdrawal from the treaty as a strategic necessity.” The statement was co-signed by former President Ibrahim Lehi, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a number of officials during their administration, and several current members of parliament.
