Today, the 20th anniversary of the completion and operation of the “Walking with Light” all-superconducting tokamak nuclear fusion experimental device of the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was held at the EAST Control Hall. On September 28, 2006, the “artificial sun” EAST was successfully discharged for the first time, obtaining high-temperature plasma with a current of 200 kiloamps and a duration of nearly 3 seconds. It became the world's first fully superconducting non-circular tokamak nuclear fusion test device built and put into operation. Over the past 20 years, EAST has continued to carry out experimental research at the cutting edge of fusion energy, and has achieved a series of major results with international influence, which has witnessed the development process of magnetically constrained nuclear fusion research in China from following and running side by side to leading the way.
