Ofcom Orders BT Group's Openreach to Withdraw Full-fiber Discount Offer

02:40 AM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Office of Communications, or Ofcom, ordered BT Group's (BT-A.L) network infrastructure unit Openreach to withdraw a proposed discount offer for new full-fiber customers, saying the pricing could undermine network competition. The media regulator said Monday that Openreach's "Incremental New to Openreach" offer, which proposed discounts of up to 9.50 pounds sterling per customer for up to 30 months, was not fair and reasonable because rival operators may be unable to match the pricing while recovering their costs. Ofcom said the offer could also limit other network operators' ability to grow their customer bases as households have not yet signed up for full-fiber broadband.
