On September 28, it was announced that an industrial-scale blast furnace gas carbon capture test device built by Shougang Group in cooperation with Rio Tinto was completed and put into operation at Shougang's production base in China. The facility aims to capture carbon dioxide from blast furnace gas generated during the ironmaking process. It can process up to 3,000 cubic meters of blast furnace gas from Shougang's Jingtang base every hour, and can collect up to 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide every year. The commissioning of the facility is part of the cooperation between Rio Tinto and Shougang signed a memorandum of understanding in 2022.
