WildBrain closed at CA$1.11, after a rough stretch that has seen the stock fall about 31% over both the past week and past month. Traders focused on shrinking Q4 revenue of CA$55 million and a drop in adjusted EBITDA, but the headline sits on the balance sheet. The company exited its Peanuts stake, shut its Canadian TV broadcaster and finished the year with corporate debt repaid and CA$89 million in cash. In the short term, that reset came with pain. Over a longer lens, it leaves a cleaner, lighter WildBrain from which to rebuild.

Optimists argue WildBrain’s reset will power a higher quality, higher margin engine built on owned brands and digital reach. The latest year does give that story some proof points. Franchise & Global Licensing revenue rose 27% to about CA$88 million and helped lift gross margin to 45% from 40%, which is exactly the mix shift bulls want to see. The Network grew Q4 revenue 6% with more direct ad sales and now spans over 1,000 YouTube, FAST and AVOD channels, so the distribution flywheel is at least expanding. Management also cleared corporate debt and ended with CA$89 million of cash, which supports the idea of renewed investment capacity. The catch is Q4 segment EBITDA, where the franchise unit swung to a loss despite higher royalties, showing that the growth engine is still being built rather than already delivering consistent profit.
Skeptics worry WildBrain is shrinking around legacy IP while burning cash and leaning on guidance. The latest numbers give that argument real ammunition. Continuing operations revenue fell 29% in Q4 and 10% for the year, with Content down 27% on an annual basis and 40% in the quarter after a large prior delivery rolled off. Adjusted EBITDA dropped to CA$21 million for FY2026 and turned to a CA$4 million loss in Q4, while full year free cash flow was a CA$31 million outflow. That profile supports concerns about financial flexibility in a capital hungry media sector, even after corporate debt repayment. FY2027 is framed as an investment year with around CA$30 million of spend that will keep free cash flow negative, so the bear view that the reset phase carries ongoing execution and funding risk is not disproved by this report.
